Colours of Life
Smile! Why? Because you can!
- By Jyothi

Being happy is not always about achieving your goal, meeting someone special, buying what you like, a special occasion in your life and so on. All these are just incidents that will turn into memories. However, notice how do feel when you have nothing special going on. Notice how your day is when there are no remarkable events to come.

Try to be aware of the importance of positive feelings and how they can influence your life. The reason is simple. What you are when you have nothing; influences how you will be when there is everything! Here are few simple steps to make your life better.

Little things you do will make someone's day and make yours too! Hold up the door or hold the elevator for a stranger. Not just because that you tend to get back what you give in some form. However, for yourself too, these little things add up and make you feel better about yourself.

Take few minutes and list all the happy thoughts you can think of. Just use a piece of paper and make a long list, or simply write about it. List people and places that make you happy - good friends, favourite vacation spots, childhood memories, puppies, babies, the smell of a new car, a lavish dinner, a day off relaxing by a pool. List anything and everything you can think of that makes you happy.

Replace the habit of spotting the things that annoy you about people. Start making small or big positive observations about them. It could be their great sense of style when it comes to shoes, how they always make you laugh when you need it or simply that they are always on time. Be sure to tell them that.

Understand what it is that will make you happy. Everyone has unique requirements for attaining happiness and what makes one person happy may be very different from what makes someone else happy. Revel in your individuality and do not worry about whether or not it is the right thing to do according to the society! If you like it, think about it!

It is important to understand that you deserve happiness. Those who believe that they are not worthy of happiness may subconsciously sabotage their efforts to achieve happiness. If necessary, tell yourself each day that you deserve to be happy and remind yourself what the best things about you are.

Happiness is hard to define but most people are aware of whether they are happy or not. Many people believe that happiness is a form of luck and that some people are destined to be happy while others are destined to be unhappy. Remember, you are what you want to be!
