Archana Timmaraju was born at Hyderabad and did her initial schooling in Vidyaranya School, Hyderabad. Post her schooling, she joined the famous Karnataka Chitra Kala Parishath, Bangalore, from where she completed her Masters in Visual Arts (MVA), specializing in sculpture.
Archana participated in a month-long workshop on metal-based sculpture at Shilparamam in November 2011. Works done by her at this workshop are installed at the Sculpture Park, Shilparamam, for public view.
Since childhood, Archana is passionate about adventure sports. Starting with riding her friends’ motorcycles and her father’s Jeep, she has participated in several trekking, scuba diving and biking events. Today, Archana owns a Royal Enfield Thunderbird, and has covered more than 25,000 km, mostly by touring across India.
Though born hard-of-hearing, Archana’s sheer grit, determination and her family’s support helped her get a normal life – comfortably conversing (in English), without seeking the help of sign language, in which she also gained expertise. Realising there are many who are not as lucky as her, she started several initiatives to create awareness among the people who are hard of hearing.
Silent Expedition is her latest initiative towards creating awareness amongst the general public on the issues faced by the hard of hearing community, and to enhance their overall confidence levels and helping them in being treated equally amongst others.
Archana currently works in Aditi Mallya International School, a reputed school in Bangalore, as an Art Teacher, and thoroughly enjoys working with children.
